Cambodia weather patterns and the best time to travel

January

January is a great time to be in Cambodia. Average temperatures remain around 27ºC in Siem Reap which is quite cool and pleasant. Normally we see blue skies and sunshine all day at this time of the year. This is a great time to spend the day exploring the Temples of Angkor or sunbathing around our swimming pool, with virtually no chance of rain and pleasant conditions.

February

Like January this is a great month in which to visit Siem Reap. The weather in Cambodia at this time is very pleasant. February is a popular time of year with tourists as the hot weather is not yet upon us with average temperatures being just 29ºC. The temples of Angkor are great in February also as later in the year the heat can be fierce.

March

March sees the start of the hot weather arriving towards the end of the month. Average temperatures reach 30ºC at this time of year in Siem Reap, but still March is still a popular time of year to visit the Temples of Angkor.

April

In April the hot season is well and truly here with average temperatures reaching 35ºC and days of 40ºC not uncommon. The temples are a little bit harder to walk around with the heat, but don’t let that put you off! We regularly visit the Temples of Angkor and the tuktuk ride along the tree-lined roads is pleasant with the cool breeze from the trees. In April and the noonday sun, can be much to handle for some people, we recommend visiting the temples in the morning and take things slowly.

May

The wet season normally makes its appearance towards the end of May. Temperatures remain high with averages of 30ºC. It is still a good time to visit the Temples as the showers are normal short downpours before the sun is back out! Tourist numbers begin to drop in May so the temples are quieter and you can get some great nightly rates on River Village Manor's website and find loads of special offers in restaurants & bars.

June

With average temperatures remaining at 30ºC the wet season is well underway. Humidity is high and the showers help ease the sifting atmosphere. Personally we love the wet season, everything comes alive and starts to grow. Its also a good time to visit as the weather in Cambodia still provides times of sunshine throughout the day with only short heavy downpours.

July

With average temperatures remaining at 30ºC the wet season is well underway. Humidity is high and the showers help ease the sifting atmosphere. Personally we love the wet season, everything comes alive and starts to grow. Its also a good time to visit as the weather in Cambodia still provides times of sunshine throughout the day with only short heavy downpours.

August

The rain showers are much heavier in August with the average temperatures are around 29ºC. August is a good month to take a trip on the Tonle Sap lake as water levels are at their highest. Don’t be put off by the rain, as with July the downpours are short and heavy, we still see sun almost everyday.

September

Short sharp downpours are more common in September and the temperature averages remain at 29ºC. If you can avoid the rains; which isn’t difficult to do, the Temples of Angkor are really good in September as Tourist Numbers have fallen off significantly. This is another good month for visiting the Tonle Sap lake.

October

This month is slightly warmer than the previous with average temperatures hitting 29-30ºC. As the month progresses the rainfall starts to decrease as we head towards November. This is still another good month for visiting the Tonle Sap lake.

November

November is the start of the dry season and rain showers will dry up completely as you move through November. Temperatures stay comfortable with averages of 28ºC. Tourism begins to pickup across Cambodia. The Water Festival, Moon Festival and Boat Racing is celebrated in November which symbiosis the end of the wet season. The Water festival is Lunar so you are best checking out our Events page for the latest dates.

December

December is a great time to be in Siem Reap and Cambodia. The average temperatures remain at 26ºC, humidity is low and it is dry. Traveling round gets much easier and the water level in the Tonle Sap lake is still high.
