"Beautiful accommodations, delicious Khmer food, and a friendly environment”
I arranged to stay for one week and ended up staying for four weeks. There are so many reasons to choose this place. I'll start with my favorite-- the food! Len's cooking is dynamite! You don't need another place for food. Okay. You're on vacation, so you'll want to try other restaurants. But I KNOW that Len's food is the best. Generous helpings at a reasonable price AND absolutely delicious. Breakfast is good. It's breakfast. But it's the Khmer food that you have to try at River Village Manor. Len's Green Curry is loaded with fresh vegetables and so damned GOOD. Cha Kdaw is phenomenal. And the Fried Red Fish. I ate at in the cafe there every single day and was NEVER disappointed. And of course, I never got sick. That's a a big plus, but it speaks volumes. The food handling practices are excellent and Len goes out every day to get the freshest ingredients. She never leaves anything to chance.
The rooms are VERY clean. The whole guest house is spotless. The two house keepers are constantly polishing the wood and cleaning the floors. Nice hot showers.
I upgraded and stayed in the room with the King sized bed and it was a wonderful experience with the balcony overlooking the river. The AC works like a champ!
They do a very good job of controlling the mosquitoes, too!!!! It's amazing that they have so many systems to keep the mossies at bay. They burn lemongrass oil in the halls so the place smells amazing and they use incense sticks outside. On the couple of occasions that I left my balcony doors open, they came in and sprayed my room because quite a few had gotten in. But that only happened twice in over 30 days. Not a bad track record.
Dale, Len's husband, is super helpful with helping you figure out how to spend your day and how to navigate Siem Reap. Both he and Len are really friendly and accommodating. They clearly have a vision to provide their guests excellent comfort in a beautiful environment. They're doing a great job and I highly recommend this guest house.
A couple of other things that I found important: The wifi is EXCELLENT. If you're into livestreaming, no problem! I had three feeds going at once without a glitch. Hahahahaha! I travel for work, so these things are important to me!! Anyway, in case you were wondering, the wifi is da bomb! Thank Dale for that!
They have bikes for you to borrow at no charge, which was also really helpful and fun. This place is really close to the Angkor Wat road, which is super convenient for exploring the temples. You could easily ride the bike there and explore... if you can handle the heat! Hahahaha!
There's also a saltwater pool!
Okay. I think that about covers it. DID I MENTION THE FOOD???? The food is amazing. Hahaha! Honestly, while I was there, I watched a bunch of people become convinced. They were making trips back home for lunch and dinner because it was that good. AND the menu is varied enough to keep you stimulated and able to sample the different flavors of Khmer culture. They also have a nice variety of Cambodian beers that are served really cold in a frosty glass. NICE!
