Traveling by Bus in Cambodia

Flying is quick; about 45 minutes in the air, but you miss so much! Occasionally we make a trip to Phnom Penh and we use the buses most of the time. Not just because its cheap; about $15 each-way, its a great way to see a parts of Cambodia that you would never normally see. Passing rice fields, traditional Khmer wooden houses and a landscape that stretched for miles.

Is traveling by bus safe? well over the years their has been one or two accidents in the past but I feel save using the main bus companies like Giant Ibis and Virak Buntham Express. When choosing a bus company my advice would be to travel on a large bus rather than a mini-bus and make sure they have insurance; which the two iv mentioned have.

It takes roughly 5 hours to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and vice versa, so if you have the time or on a budget a bus is really quite comfortable and a good way to see Cambodia.
